More new about the choice of the dog.

Few day’s ago I told you about change in the composition of the dog team for the race to come. Since that we had an issue here the 2 dogs that we were supposed to rent from Normand and Karine start to have a little caught. It maybe due to change of feed or some kind of virus, common here in Yukon in this time of the year, just remember Vison in last years race.

For that reason we decided to get back to plan A and put back in the team our own dog. So Agora and Agathe regain there place on the line.

The small train go far will be our strategies for the start of the race. Agora will set the paste and rest of the team will have to fallow her rhythm. According to Julie Agathe will for sure make a part of the run in the basket her skill will be put a profit as the trail goes’ on whit a day to day check on her level of fuel in the tank.

Mardi 25 janvier

Last hard training before the race we have done a 35 miles run on the Gator trail each of us whit a sled. This trail is one of the only trail we have to train in which we can have nice view of the Yukon wilderness, most of them being in the forest offering us less splendid regard on this unique panorama.

Julie report me that around there they are almost no trail for musher use only , most of them are use by anyone , for any purpose they need , that as for result that musher have trail not very friendly for dog training . So we decided that from now on we will just make small 10 miles run just to keep the dog in the shape they have.

Unusual high temperature that we have now doesn’t help anything getting the surface snow that have harden whit intense cold of last week, getting very soft now.

Hi every one!!

It is whit big regret that I announce you today the withdraw of the competition of 3 of our dog. So Agora, Agathe and Tom will not start the race on the 5 of February.

1: Agora as you know she as suffer from a muscular problem at her right shoulder 3 weeks ago since that she as well recover but she lost precious time of training and cannot fallow the rhythm that the rest of the team have. We are sure that she can give us a good 200-300 miles but in a race like this one we cannot afford to start the race whit a dog that we know in advance that will not get to the end.

2: Agathe our small but so hard working dog , She lost weight while we were on our way to Whitehorse, she don’t like being in the trailer and as usual she almost stop eating , since our arrival she eating well but the lost of fuel will not be regain fast enough to get her in the team. The goal is to reach Dawson whit a complete team so like for Agora why take a chance?

3: Tom ,  our spare dog that have took the place of Agora, suffer from an allergic reaction to a massage cream that we use on him , looking back on to is thigh legs, it’s seem not real to think he can make the run.

So for replacing those team member we have make a deal whit Normand and Karine they will rent us 2 dogs that is a normal thing whit in the musher community.  So Koroc and Mc-crab will be add to the team, those 2 dogs have already done the Quest and finish it. From our point of view that is not a bad move and maybe it can come very beneficial for the race to come. Especially since they are very well accept by the rest of the team.

Those dogs bio are available on dog’s profiles section.

Puppy’s are doing really great they still gaining weigh very fast , they are still in the trailer but soon whit there mother they will be put outside in a specially design place whit in our host Kennel. In fact here whit all the bird of prays there is, maternity as to have fence on every side to avoid those bird to take young dog.

I also announce you that 2 of our female puppy will stay here after the race and will grow whit the good care of Norm and Karine.

For today a recap on the food drop day. We are arrived in the first group, already bags of food are accumulating at a good rhythm, a bunch of skid will be use during this day. Don’t forget that even the 300 miles race participant will have to get there bag of food in that warehouse.

An army of volunteers’ waited for us for unload the pick up truck while they place the bag at there place we step on the occasion for have a little talk whit Marie, she is the French / bilingual part of the crew here at the Whitehorse office of the Quest.

Tomorrow from 12:00 to 16:00 is the food drop for the 2011 Yukon Quest. Since last October we worked pretty hard cutting the meat, chicken and salmon to be use not only within the race but for all your 2 month stay in the Yukon and your entire trip that will be 3 month out of the kennel whit 22 dog’s to take care of.

For those of you that know Denis you know that he always have enough food for is team and for another team in case of problem, from my point of view this time will not make exception to the rules!!!

Let’s go!! Get those bags ready for tomorrow!

New about the dog’s

All the team is in great shape the dog are eating well and they seem to tolerate very well the intense cool weather that wee have. We just have a little worry whit Agoraour lead femelle that have a sure muscle before the start of the 100 miles run of last week. But whit the care of Normand and is great experience in dog massage the trouble have been treated fast. Funny fact, whit temperature of -35 whit peak down to -41, penis of the dog tended to froze!!  We never thought of such thing, but again Normand and Karine  was there to help us providing us all the proper gear made especially to do the job.

The Simpson are also doing fine, Peurl is a good mother and the puppy’s gain weight very fast, they even start to open there eyes. We decided to let them in the trailer; it’s making less space to warm up then an outside dog house.

Dear Musher,

Last year the Starter Program was piloted in Fairbanks and had good success for its first year.  For this 2011 race, the Program is mandatory for all mushers and we have already put your names and images on the Yukon Quest website.  All proceeds of the Starter Program are an addition to the purse!

Fans bid on the opportunity to become the “Official Starter” for their favorite musher.  The auction is on the Yukon Quest website and will be promoted through every means available on both sides of the border.

The “Official Starter” package is listed as:

1.            One ticket to the Start Banquet to join your musher’s table. (Mushers - please keep this in mind when you are inviting guests to join you.)

2.            Access Pass to the staging area pre-race to watch (help) your musher prepare.

3.            Ride to the start line with your musher (Either on the runners or a volunteer snowmachine)

4.            Autographed poster signed by your musher.

5.            Picture at Start Line holding sled with your musher in the start chute.

6.            Name read by announcer at Start.

We encourage you to go online and increase the experience for the bidders by adding to your individual package. This could be anything that you think would make you and your kennel more attractive to bidders and certainly at your discretion.   You can advertise any additional perks on the auction website calling your local favorite – Marie or Stephanie - to get that going for you!

Administrative fees incurred by the Yukon Quest will be $100 per musher (Start Banquet ticket, poster and photographer expenses) so bids will start at a minimum of $100.00.

Please take a look at the website, decide what you might like to add to your package and assist us and the purse by promoting this opportunity anywhere you can – even your mother-in-law!

Thanks to all of you and have a great race!

Spécial picture for our neighbour Pierrot

Last week I talked to you about a trail that Denis Julie and there host where about to take over and doing so I said “The kennel road” it was in fact the canol road trail I’ am truly sorry for that mistake.

Well anyway the pictures presented here have been taken there. We start the run at 9:00 pm in the night of Friday 9 of January and end Saturday around 2-3 pm. So 100 miles in 17-18 hrs really not bad considering the load we have.

Normand invites you all to make search on the net whit those key word “canol road” to read about the great history of this road.
